CRT, LCD, What Next?

CRT monitors have been popular for many years, but they are getting almost extinct due to the newer generation of monitors known as LCD. If your monitor is relatively flat, it means that you are sitting in front of a LCD monitor right now. LCD monitors are getting thinner and brighter each year, but for how long will this technology be popular? Since CRT became at some point absolute, it is safe to assume that the same will happen to the LCD technology. Some time ago I even read about a new type of more efficient monitors developed at Microsoft which would be able to transmit a lot more brightness to the surface of the screen. That is because it seems that LCD monitors only transmit around 10% of light to the actual screen.

China Has Now More Internet Users

Every since the beginning of the internet usage, the United States have been the number one in the world when it comes to the number of people using the net. However, it changed very recently in the beginning of this year. China now has 220 million internet users which is already more than United States have. Among US population 217 million people use the web. Before the end of this year, China is expected to have 280 million users giving it even more advantage above the American continent. Not everybody however is happy with that turn of events. The Chinese government is concerned about potential social unrest resulting from free internet usage as Chinese citizens are confronted with freedom of speech and freedom of expressing one’s opinions that are present in Western countries.

The phenomena of sites like YouTube shows where we and the Internet is heading nowadays. If you have watched any movie on YouTube, you know that you can see how many people viewed a particular video. Ads Everywhere?

I surf the web quite a lot and when I do so, I often feel like I am bombarded by ads. I don’t mind text ads, but I especially dislike flashy one’s, which can make you get a headache. Do advertisers really need to make them that flashy to grab our attention? When it comes to me it has the opposite effect – I am actually repulsed by them. Since there is no easy way to run away from ads, we might need to learn to live with them. Actually it isn’t true that I don’t like all type of ads, as sometimes I might benefit by visiting a site which is being advertised, especially if it is a relevant advertisement. I am just bored with all of the emoticon ads and other which I have no interest in.

Want to Spam? Think Again

The times when spamming was never punished might be over, as there are many cases of spammer paying for their crimes. For example, this year a spammer got ordered to pay $230 million dollars to MySpace because of an anti-spam judgment. As a matter of fact this is believed to be the largest anti-spam judgment ever. Of course I can’t imagine MySpace collecting this money easily, as the spammer probably doesn’t have this kind of money. In any case, it will probably scare other spammers and since the technology to filter spam email is getting better and better, I think it is safe to presume that the number of spammers should be diminishing.

Know What You Are Reading or Watching

Everybody (or almost everybody) who watches Jon Stewart from the Daily Show knows that you cannot believe everything he is saying because his program is so called fake news show. Things are different however on the Internet. With the influx of different pages, you might not realize that what you are reading is not true. There are many hoax websites on the Internet with the goal of misleading their readers, some of them are more cunning than others. Let us look for example at MoonBeam Enterprise which advertisers as a ultimate place to buy your property on moon. Probably you would not fall for it, but you will be surprised to find out how many people actually believed this hoax. My advice is whatever you read or watch on the net, be prepared for hoax websites and scammers. It is so easy to get scammed these days.

Obtaining a Free Hard Drive

Do you want to know how to obtain a free hard drive? I might not be able to tell you how to obtain a regular one, but you can get an internet virtual drive by utilizing gmail. You will need to have a gmail address, but these days it should be quite easy to obtain. Secondly you will need to download the GMail Drive shell extension and install it. You can do it by visiting this link: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Internet/E-mail/Mail-Utilities/GMail-Drive-shell-extension.shtml Once installed, this software is going to create a virtual file system around your Google GMail account. What this means for you is that you will be able to save and retrieve file directly through Internet Explorer. Of course the transfer rate of files is going to be a lot slower compared to copying files between your regular hard drives, but since it is completely free, it is useful anyway.

Influx of Legal Information

All the legal information that you might need to protect yourself is available on the internet. It is a very big convenience as you do not have to go anywhere to check what the legal system is writing about your current situation or the situation that you would wish to check out. This makes people safer knowing that there is a way to check the complexity of legal system on the internet and how it works. If you feel that your rights have been violated, do not hesitate to check it out on sites like uscode.house.gov/ or dir.yahoo.com/Government/law/. It looks that even Yahoo tries to be helpful here too. Take the advantage out of that.

Contact Forms or Emails?

Last time I checked there was an estimate of 30 billion web pages on the internet. It sounds quite impressive and the number is growing. The number of websites and blogs which are getting spammed is also growing, so webmasters are finding ways to combat spam. One of the reasons that webmasters are receiving spam is because they put their email address on their website. The problem is that spammers are crawling webpages in order to obtain any email address they can find, so that later they can send spam email. One of the ways to protect yourself from your email being harvested like that, is to implement a contact form on your website. This way people will still be able to contact you, but it will drastically reduce the amount of spam you are receiving.

Guitar Hero with Metallica

I have played Guitar Hero before and I really enjoyed. Even though I am not a guitar player, when I was playing this game it felt somehow that I was really playing this instrument. I really enjoyed the songs that were prepared by the company and I always wished there were more of them so that I can enjoy the game even for longer without getting bored with the same songs all over again. I know that there are user created songs that can be played with Guitar Hero, but I never actually found them to be good enough to keep me interested. Today I learned that the producers of Guitar Hero are preparing to launch the new version of this game with songs of Metallica. I am really looking forward to it.
