Languages

English is one of those languages in which you can easily hide whether you are male or female. You can write for example: I am a doctor. Do your readers know if you are a man or a woman? No. In many other languages there are many different ways to specify what gender you are. There is no universal I am. There is either male I am or female I am. If you have been speaking English since your birth and this is your first language, you might not really feel how it could be possible to distinguish whether a person is male or female if he/she is writing about himself/herself in the first person, but in many other languages there is no way to hide it. I am sure that many people abuse it to hide their sex especially if they chat on the internet with friends that they have never met or participate in social networking. If Hebrew for example was the most spoken language in the world, there would be no issues like that.

How to protect yourself Against Internet Piracy

It is true that the best way to protect yourself against any type of internet piracy is not to disclose any information about yourself. However, very often you have to disclose some information and if you would not, you wouldn’t take an advantage of what the internet has to offer to you. To avoid any danger you can even close yourself in a cage and spend your whole life there any thus avoid piracy, but why would anybody do that? What you have to remember as the internet user is to stay alert at all times and be aware of the fact that there might be pirates waiting to steal your identity. Always be careful and check if a page where you insert your password or other data has a valid page address. Refute all the emails that look suspicious and that call you to action like “you have 48 hours to reopen your Paypal account”. Very often it will not be a real message from Paypal that you will be receiving. The best measures you can take is to stay alert and think about what you are doing while surfing the web.

Dual Display eBook Readers

There is no doubt that books require a lot of space and are very heavy. It is really interesting that you could fit a whole personal library into one hard drive. This way you can store all of your books in one place, but the problem is that you would only be able to access them at your computer. That is where eBook readers come into play. EBook readers allow you to read your favorite eBooks anywhere you want and some of the newer ones offer dual display to mimic real books. You can even turn pages with such dual display devices, so that it will feel like flipping real pages.

Forwarding Emails

There are many email providers which charge its users for forwarding. If a person has a few account and wishes to forward emails on each of them, he might end up paying a lot of money. However there are also email providers which do you charge for forwarding and a good example would be Gmail. You don’t need to pay anything and you are going to receive the same quality service, so why pay more? Forwarding an email is quite easy and to do this you will first need to log in your Gmail account. The next step involves clicking on “Settings” and choosing “Forwarding and POP/IMAP”. What we are interested in is forwarding, so let’s only look at the options related to forwarding. You have a choice to forward emails to any address and keep Gmails’ copy in the inbox, archive it or delete it. At any time you can also disable forwarding if that is what you will want.

New Low-Voltage Processors

Some time ago Intel introduced two new 45-nanometer processors which are low-voltage chips that work 25% faster than other processors currently available. The names of the processors are quad-core Xeon L5420 and L5410 and they use approximately 12.5 watts per core. The dedicated 1333 MHz front-side busses are guaranteed to make the processors even more attractive, along with the 12 MB of on-die cache. While the first 45-nanometer processors were introduced last November, they are getting more efficient month by month and even Advanced Micro Devices plans to introduce its first 45-nanometer processors later this year. This sounds like an exciting year for computer enthusiasts.

Cutting Text in Word

Cutting text is something that makes computers a lot more convenient to use for writers and editors. Gone are the times of traditional typewriters and the new era of computers came. There are three ways to cut a text in Word:

1. By using the menu. In order to use the menu to cut the text, select the text you wish to cut. Now go to Edit in the upper menu. Here select the cut option. I have to admit that this is my least preferred method of cutting the text and I almost never use it.
2. By using the right mouse button. To eliminate a piece of text with this method, select a text that you want to get rid of and then click your right mouse button. A small drop down menu will appear. After it appears, click an appropriate option to cut the text. This is a method that I am using from time to time and I definitely prefer it to method number 1.

After some time of working with Word, all of the things I mentioned will be very easy to do.

Printing Pages in Internet Explorer

If you want to print a page that you found on the internet, you can do it in one of two ways:

1. By printing the text of this website only. That way you will save some money on ink, but also will avoid unnecessary items being printed that you do not need anyway. If you are using IE and want to print a webpage, you will by default print only a text unless you will change it in settings.
2. By printing everything that is on a particular website. As I wrote in point 1, your IE has a default option to print the text only. To change it and thus enable background etc. to be printed, go to Tools from the top menu bar and then go to Internet Options. Here choose the Advanced tab and look for Printing section. Check the option “Print background colors and images”. After that press Apply and OK.

There are a lot of interesting sites on the internet, so at some point or another, I am sure that you will want to print something.

Changing the View of Your Word Document

There are many views that you can choose to see your text in a Word document. To see what options you can choose from, go to top menu bar and click on “View”. You will see choices like normal view, web layout view, print layout, reading layout and outline. If you are finished with your document you can easily check how it is going to look like after being printed or you can proofread your text in a reading view that is actually easier to read and the letters are magnified. Web layout view will show you how your document could look like if you transformed it into a webpage. Normal view is the most basic view and some documents look better in an outline view. Work with the view that suits you the most.

How to Check Printers

If you are working in a company where a network of computers exists, you can print in any printer that is in your network. Sometimes you might be surprised after getting to know what printer your computer is assigned to. It might be even a printer on the opposite side of the building. To check what your default printer is and to change it to the one that you would like this to be, follow these steps:

1. Go to Start menu, select Settings and then click on Printers and Faxes.
2. You will see here a list of printers that are in your network and that you are able to use.
3. You will recognize a printer to which you are assigned that it is checked.
4. Right click the printer of your choice to set it as a default printer and choose Set as default printer.

Hope this wasn’t confusing.

The Future of GPS

GPS stands for Global Positioning System. This system is used for tracking people, cars and transported products. Many people wonder what is the future of this innovative technology. I can say certainly that the future is very bright. Imagine that you had an accident. Wouldn’t it be nice to transfer your coordinates to the nearest emergency operator that could come and help? Many cell phones today have this interesting feature that could still be enhanced and improved in the future. I am sure that there will be many uses for GPS that we cannot even think of. GPS technology already helps us fight the crime by tracking car-jacking and potential criminals. I imagine that it can do a lot more for us.
